“Ball of Twine - Special Figure” skated by Andrew Betke, 2019 World Jr. Figure & Fancy Skating Champ Historic first Andrew Betke, 2019 World Jr. Figure & Fancy Skating Champion competed the “Ball of Twine - Special Figure” at the 2019 World Figure & Fancy Skating Championships!
This moment in time expanded skating’s knowledge and protected the stunning “Ball of Twine” Special Figure from extinction. Many thanks to Andrew Betke for being inspired to learn and compete skating’s great Figure patterns. Thank you to Andrew’s parents for fostering his love of skating and to Nancy Blackwell-Grieder, (2017 World Figure Champion & awesome Skating Educator) for teaching Andrew to learn and compete using the great art & sport of Figures & Fancy Skating. Also, thank you to Bev Thurber for inspiring Andrew to learn this Special Figure at the 2018 World Figure & Fancy Skating Championships & Festival on black ice. A special thank you to the Shipstad Family, WFS’s Hall of Fame Members for donating the iconic image of Roy Shipstad “Skating the Ball of Twine” in 1939 to the World Figure Sport Society’s Archives.
