Since each state makes you buy permits, this can get very costly, especially if you have to cross multiple states on your run. So, who pays for hotshot permits?
You can save money hotshotting by making your shipper pay for your permits!
René explains that permits for hotshots should be paid by the shipper (or broker) not the carriers. After all, it's their load that needs to be moved.
Before you accept an oversized load, a HAZMAT load, or any other load that requires a permit, make sure the broker breaks down how much money is allotted for permits. If it's not enough, then negotiate to increase the rate, or find another load.
NEVER PAY FOR YOUR OWN PERMITS!
If you have any questions, about getting an oversized load permit, getting a HAZMAT permit, or anything else about hotshot trucking, René says that you can reach out to him anytime.
