From Grassroots to Fortune 100: How One Activist Creates Impact within Corporations

From Grassroots to Fortune 100: How One Activist Creates Impact within Corporations This video is part of the premiere of "Hopkins Celebrates Earth Day 50." Come here every Wednesday at noon for a new Lightning Talk through the year 2020. See other Lightning Talks here:

Presenter: Charles Orgbon III
JHU Affiliation: Student, MS in Applied Economics

Description: In 2012, Charles Orgbon founded Greening Forward, an NGO that empowers students to take action against environmental issues. He was just 12-years-old. The organization grew from the ground up to become one of the largest youth-imagined environmental organizations. Charles then made a big change: to the corporate world. Charles now develops sustainability solutions for his clients at Deloitte, a company that has its hands in more Fortune 100 companies than any other company. That’s quite the shift! In this talk, Charles discusses his experience in both the non-profit space and the corporate space and how harnessing the synergies that lie between both sectors will be pivotal in addressing today’s global challenges. When 61 of the top 100 economies of the world are not governments, but actually for-profit corporations, the opportunity for non-profit organizations to influence corporate systems has never been greater. In order to address modern global challenges – poverty, sustainability, equity, wellness, or sustainability to name a few – we’ll need to breakdown the silos that exist between sectors.
