Not just Liam Howletts favorite, this souped up Roland S-sampler had a lot going for it. The most beautiful sampling sound capability, a built in sequencer, a big display and the whole S-sampler library (S-50/550/330) to chose from.
It even had a ROM chip with samples already on it so you could start playing right away.
All this on 1989, at the time of release was big. However, not big enough to compete with Akai and Roland refused to make their samplers Akai compatible. And they suffered for it.

Thanks again to Anders Jensen for supplying me with this great example of a W-30!

Growing up I listened to so much synth-pop and it's only natural that my own music takes inspiration from many of the acts I loved back then. I still love them and listen to them!

Howard Jones, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Erasure, Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears, The Human League, Propaganda. FGTH, Ultravox, OMD, Eurythmics, Duran Duran, Giorgio Moroder, Jean Michel Jarre, Jan Hammer, Alphaville, A-ha as well as loads of artists doing what is now called Italo Disco. And many more great acts like Nik Kershaw, Spandau Ballet, Wham, Dire Straits ++
