Labor is calling on the Morrison Government to bail out Virgin Australia to protect thousands of Australian jobs as well as “the national interest”. Opposition leader Anthony Albanese said injecting money into the airline “should be regarded as an investment that will produce a return, a return in jobs, a return in future economic growth”.
He said allowing Virgin to collapse would have a heavy impact on regional areas as a one airline system would only allow for “cherry-picking” flights between towns and open up the sector to foreign airlines.
