**Comment below: Did you apply for the EIDL?**
Previously, the SBA received $60B in additional stimulus funding. This stimulus bill funding was supposed to go to fund new EIDL grants, which were $1000 - $10,000 stimulus checks for businesses.
The EIDL grant was for independent contractors, self employed individuals, gig workers, and business owners. EIDL loan recipients would receive a grant, or a forgivable loan, just for successfully applying for an EIDL.
You did not need to pay the EIDL grant back, and the EIDL was completely free. It was just like a stimulus check!
But an SBA spokesperson announced that they are no longer taking new EIDL applications. Why? Because there was a backlog of EIDL applications from the first stimulus bill round, and there was not enough stimulus money for everyone in that round. So NEW applicants will not receive any EIDL grants because the SBA is prioritizing its applicants on a first come, first served basis, and there are still BILLIONS of dollars of unfunded EIDL grants from the first stimulus round.
